PACT INC: As mentioned on the Build 2: Long Range Target Varmint Rifle 308 AR page I selected the ATC Gold SR Trigger (AMERICAN TRIGGER SR GOLD) as an alternative to the Geissele. The AR 308 SR Gold Trigger appears at the time of writing this to only be available from Pact. I ordered my trigger on July 23, 2009, without issue from the PACT website. The following evening I decided I wanted to know how long the lead time was as well as see if Pact answered their email. So I composed a brief email questioning an approximate ship date from Pact. Much to my surprise, I received a response from Pat at Pact stating that the trigger would ship in about 4 weeks from my order date. Great news as that gave me a few weeks to finish up the rifle build. I noted 4 weeks on my Calendar.

Fast forward to August 26th and time for an update. I send off a message this time directly to Pat and again I receive a message in a very short time advising me to call the 800 number tomorrow for order status. So I did. Again I’m surprised, the phone was answered by a human who within a minute stated that my order was going out that day or the next. The following day I noticed the funds removed from my checking account in the amount of the trigger. September 1, 2009, the ATC SR Gold Trigger System arrived at my back door, thus paving the way to finishing the current rifle build. Kudos’ to PACT for top-notch customer service Note on the pictures: These pictures were not taken with a decent camera in good lighting. What looks like imperfections in the hammer is some strange light effect. I will take new pictures at a later date under proper conditions.

Installation was a breeze. However, my lower was already assembled when the trigger arrived. This required me to remove the safety selector to install this trigger. No big deal. I loosened the pistol grip enough to allow the detents to relax and allow the selector to be removed. I then placed the trigger module in the lower and replaced the selector and re-tightened the pistol grip. I then aligned the holes in the receiver and drove the pins in with a plastic faced hammer. The entire process took less than 10 minutes.

This AR 308 trigger write up gave me a wonderful opportunity to try out my latest gadget, the Lyman Electronic Trigger Pull Gauge. I’ll cover the gauge in detail elsewhere. Testing: I decided to practice for a while on my other guns before tackling the SR Gold and when the time arrived for my first test on the SR Gold I was shocked that the trigger pull registered 3.1 pounds. I had expected this trigger to be in the 3.5-4 pound range from the factory. I spent several minutes performing the test over and over. The highest pull I saw register was 3.4. I noticed that many readings seem to come in at around 3.2 pounds. For the most part, though I tried to concentrate on keeping the gauge straight and properly oriented rather than on the display. In the end, I decided to use the gauge averaging function which calculates the average pull weight of the last 10 trigger pulls. Result: No surprise here. I ended up right back where I started at 3.1 pounds.

We already know the trigger has a very light pull from the factory but as you well know there is more to a good AR 308 trigger than a consistent light pull weight. Once again the ATC SR Gold does not disappoint. The trigger has absolutely no creep or overtravel..nothing..nada. I’m very impressed
