GEISSELE AR 308 HI-SPEED NATIONAL MATCH TRIGGER SET
User-Adjustable, Adaptable Premium Trigger
GEISSELE AR 308 HI-SPEED NATIONAL MATCH TRIGGER SET combines their exceptional match-grade trigger with their Service Rifle, Designated Marksman Rifle, and Match Rifle Spring sets. Geissele’s adjustable Hi-Speed National Match 308 AR Trigger is designed for competition, hunting, and tactical sniper use, where exact trigger pull weight is essential for success.
The trigger comes with three spring sets, each applicable to a different type of shooting. The Hi-Speed Service Spring is designed for NRA High Power Service Rifle competition and is approved for use in CMP sanctioned competitions. Easily switch to the Hi-Speed Designated Marksman Rifle spring set for tactical and military shooting where trigger pull weight is not regulated. Hi-Speed Match spring set can be adjusted to low pull weights for enhanced trigger control, letting the shooter wring every ounce of accuracy out of his rifle
Service Rifle pull: 3.2-5 lbs. (1st), .5 to 1.5 lbs. (2nd), 4.5 lbs. min. (total)
DMR pull: 2.5 to 3.6 lbs. (1st), .5 to 1.5 lbs. (2nd), 3 to 5.1 lbs. (total)
Match Rifle pull: 1.5 to 2.5 lbs. (1st), 8 oz. to 14 oz. (2nd), 1.9 to 3.4 lbs. (total)
With the Geissele Hi-Speed National Match Trigger in your AR 308, you can easily adjust the triggers first and second stage weight, as well as total pull weight and over-travel to your exact preference.
Hi-Speed National Match Triggers Geissele Automatics currently offers three large pin Hi-Speed trigger products. These adjustable triggers are specially designed for competition, hunting, tactical, and military use, where both accuracy and robustness are critical. As an adjustable trigger, the first and second stage weight distribution, as well as, total pull weight, over-travel, and sear engagement are all to be tuned to the shooters preference.
The Geissele Service Spring Set The Geissele Hi-Speed Service is designed for NRA High Power Service Rifle competition. It is an approved trigger for use in CMP sanctioned competitions such as: National Trophy, NTIT and all Excellence In Competition matches. Service Rifle competitions require military-based weapons to meet certain criteria, one of which is a minimum trigger pull weight of 4.5 lbs. Our Service Rifle Trigger includes our exclusive 5-Coil trigger spring which will give a nominal 4 lbs. on first stage. The Service trigger pull weights are biased with most of the pull weight on the first stage. This will allow a light second stage with an icicle-sharp break, effectively giving your weapon a match-grade trigger let-off.
The Geissele DMR Spring Set The Geissele Hi-Speed Designated Marksman Rifle is designed for tactical and military shooting where trigger pull weight is not regulated. Perfect for all precision tactical shooting and squad Designated Marksmen, the higher second stage weight helps in high-stress shooting situations.
The Geissele Match Spring Set The Geissele Hi-Speed Match is designed for NRA High Power Rifle competition with highly modified AR-15 Space guns. AR-15 Space guns are the Formula 1 weapons of High Power Rifle competition. With very few restrictions, these highly customized semi-automatic weapons are intended to produce extreme accuracy at long range. The Geissele Match Trigger is a perfect Space gun add-on as the pull weight can be adjusted to low levels that enhance trigger control. The fast lock time assists the shooter in getting every ounce of accuracy out of his weapon. The Hi-Speed hammer uses a full-power hammer spring which imparts more kinetic energy into the firing pin, producing much more consistent primer ignition – especially with experimental cartridges or AR 308, 308 AR and AR-10 based weapons.
GEISSELE AR 308 HI-SPEED NATIONAL MATCH TRIGGER SET INSTRUCTIONS
The Geissele SSA trigger is a semi-automatic only version of Geissele Automatics’s Super Select-Fire trigger. The Geissele SSA is a 4.5lb. non-adjustable combat trigger that is a precision two-stage trigger and allows precise and accurate trigger control. The SSA’s two-stage design allows the trigger to be light enough for accurate and precise shots, but forgiving enough for CQB. The SSA is safety certified by Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center. It is recommended for demanding applications such as Law Enforcement use, Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and mid-range carbine work.
Size: Standard Mil-Spec Pin, Trigger Bow Type M4 Curved, Weapon Platform AR15, AR-10, 308 AR
Geissele SSA 2-stage combat trigger has a fixed 4½ lb. total pull weight, non-adjustable sear engagement, and additional safety features ideal for CQB and mid-range carbine work. A secondary “safety sear” captures the hammer if the primary sear accidentally releases due to hard impact, ensuring the rifle can fire only when the shooter actually pulls the trigger.
Trigger pull is optimized for both deliberate, aimed fire and quick, “snap shooting.” The first stage builds gradually to 2½ lbs., with a 2 lb. second stage that breaks clean, so the shooter can stay on target throughout the pull. A lightweight hammer driven by a full-power hammer spring speeds lock time and delivers positive ignition of all ammo types. All contact surfaces are wire EDM cut to exact dimensions for precise engagement free of play.
Direct replacement for factory trigger; may be installed without removing the safety. Operation and parts layout is similar to the USGI M16 trigger for easy maintenance. All springs are captive to simplify field disassembly for cleaning. Hammer and trigger pins are a close slip-fit in nominal .154″ (small pin) mil-spec receiver holes to enable installation with basic tools.
Geissele SSA-E Trigger
Geissele SSA-E Trigger offers an even lighter, 3½ lb. total pull weight, making it an excellent choice for precision Squad Designated Marksman type rifles where both accuracy and reliability are critical. First stage builds gradually to 2.3 lbs., followed by a 1.2 lb. second stage with a crisp, “candy cane-like” break. A semi-auto-only version of the Geissele full-auto combat trigger presently used in the U.S. Special Operations community.
SPECS: Steel, black finish. Fits semi-automatic AR-15/M16 receivers with .154″ diameter hammer and trigger pin holes. May be installed in AR-style .308 rifles that accept AR-15 triggers. Kit includes trigger and hammer assemblies, springs, hammer pin, tube of grease, and illustrated instructions.
Geissele Super Semi-Automatic (SSA) Trigger
GEISSELE SUPER SEMI-AUTOMATIC (SSA®) TRIGGER
The Geissele Super Semi-Automatic (SSA) Trigger is the semi-auto only version of a select fire trigger that Geissele makes for customers in the U.S. Special Operations community. The SSA is a non-adjustable combat trigger, it is not a match trigger. The second stage break is like a carrot rather than an icicle. Suitable for Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and mid-range carbine work, the Geissele SSA is also the perfect trigger for Squad Designated Marksman (SDM) rifles. A short summary of the Geissele SSA features and advantages follows.
The Geissele SSA Trigger has a pull weight of about 4.5lb. 2.5 lbs on the first stage and 2lb on the second stage. The pull weights and sear engagement are non adjustable by the shooter.
Geissele Trigger and hammer are made from quality tool steel
Sear surfaces are cut by a wire edm machine. Sears cut this way are very accurate and the non-directional surface finish of the wire edm gives a smooth trigger pull without the associated grittiness of directional machining marks left by a milling cutter.
The initial force needed to start the disengagement of the sear surfaces is low and the force linearly increases at a low rate. This helps the shot to fall at the initial point of aim and aids in building shooter confidence in his weapons ability to put the rounds where his sight is pointing.
The Geissele SSA trigger allows the shooter to slap through the trigger pull on close in shots but also set up a long range shot with a crisp trigger break.
A full force hammer spring is used for quick lock time and positive ignition of all types of ammo. There is no lightened hammer spring used.
The hammer is lighter than a standard AR15 hammer. The lightened hammer favorably decreases lock time and increases accuracy of the weapon, especially for snap shots.
Advantages for the Armorer
The Geissele SSA is a simple design that is very similar to the original M16 trigger. The number of parts is identical.
There are no adjustment screws to come loose. All springs are captive; they will not get lost during disassembly in the field
The entire trigger can be dissembled for cleaning (no rivets or staked parts)
The trigger can be installed without removing the safety
Sear engagement is pre-set from the factory
Hammer and trigger pins are a close slip fit into nominal receiver holes so the trigger can be installed and removed with
Triggers come with a slave pin for the trigger/disconnector assembly for easy installation.
The Geissele SSA is a 2 stage trigger where there is generous overlap of the sear surfaces which contributes to safety and a low tendency of any inadvertent movement of the trigger to discharge the weapon.
The Geissele SSA has a patented pseudo sear that is almost identical to the standard AR15 single stage sear. However, this secondary sear has surfaces that never touch during normal operation. This sear prevents the hammer from falling unless the trigger is pulled.
The secondary safety sear contributes to shooter confidence in dynamic/vehicle situations where a fellow shooter’s muzzle may cover him. There is firm knowledge that even with the safety in the fire position the weapon can never discharge unless the trigger is pulled.
Trigger timing is robust and parts have been sized to operate with a certain amount of wear to the working surfaces. The trigger is designed to operate in dusty, abrasive environments that cause wear.
*Triggers for Colt large pin rifles are available., *The Geissele SSA does not fit HK416 weapons with firing pin safety
GEISSELE SSA TRIGGER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
GEISSELE SUPER SEMI-AUTOMATIC (SSA®) TRIGGER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
READ THIS FIRST – Firearm safety is YOUR responsibility. You must memorize and put into practice the 4 Rules of Firearm Safety:
ASSUME EVERY WEAPON IS LOADED.
KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT.
DO NOT LET THE MUZZLE POINT AT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY.
Remove existing trigger and clean receiver. It is not necessary to remove the safety.
Remove the trigger pin from the trigger and replace with the slave pin to hold the disconnector in place.
Install trigger and slave pin into rifle. Align slave pin with receiver pin holes. Insert trigger pin into receiver, through trigger/disconnector, and into receiver on opposite side.
Remove hammer pin from hammer. Place a drop of lubricant in the bore of the hammer pivot.
Install hammer into receiver with hammer spring legs on top of the trigger pin. Insert hammer pin into receiver, through hammer, and into receiver on opposite side.
Apply a small amount of lubricant in the following locations: a. Each side of the disconnector above the trigger pin b. Hammer and trigger sears c. Face of the disconnector d. Hammer tail where it contacts the disconnector; e. Top of each side of the hammer spring where the spring contacts the receiver wall.
Check safety operation: With the hammer cocked and the safety selector set to the SAFE position, pull the trigger hard. The hammer should not fall.
Check trigger reset: Set safety selector to FIRE. Dry fire weapon and keep trigger held back. Pull charging handle all the way back and release, letting the bolt carrier snap forward. The hammer should not fall. Release trigger. Hammer should be caught by the trigger.
Check for the presence of a second stage: Set the safety selector to FIRE. Pull the trigger through the first stage until it comes to a distinct stop—this is the second stage. Applying additional pressure to the trigger will allow the weapon to discharge. Maintenance of the SSA trigger consists of occasionally placing a drop of lubricant on the locations shown in #7 above. Recommended lubrcant is CLP or equivalent; alternatively a high quality grease may be used on the trigger/hammer sears and disconnector contact surfaces. When the trigger and lower receiver well become very dirty (such as when firing with a suppressor), it is not always necessary to remove the trigger group for cleaning. Spray down the trigger group with electrical contact cleaner to remove residual oil and dirt. Next, use compressed air to blow off the trigger group and then flush liberally with a light lubricant as CLP or equivalent. Blow off excess lubricant with compressed air and lubricate as noted above. The Geissele Super Semi-Automatic trigger is a 4.5 lb. non-adjustable precision combat trigger and allows precise and accurate trigger control. The SSA’s two-staged design allows the trigger to be light enough for accurate and precise shots, but heavy and forgiving enough to be safe. The SSA is safety certified by Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center. It is recommended for demanding applications such as Law Enforcement use, Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and mid-range carbine work. The SSA Trigger will lighten the trigger pull relative to a standard trigger. This lightened trigger pull will make the firearm easier to discharge. You must recognize and accept this fact before installing this trigger. If you do not want a lighter than standard trigger pull or are not willing to accept responsibility for the safety of your firearm, yourself, and those around you, do not install this trigger. Geissele Automatics recommends installation by a certified gunsmith only.
For the most part standard AR-15 triggers will work in the large frame .308 AR pattern rifles. There are however a few considerations to think about.
SAFETY: The first and foremost consideration is safety. While you may be inclined to go for the light pull weight your accustomed to in your bolt rifles that type of trigger is not advisable with these heavy recoiling rifles. A pull that is to light can possibly cause the gun to fire in uncontrolled full auto which will be dangerous to you the shooter as well as those around you. Guns designed for full automatic fire have their fire control system timed to fire at a predetermined rate with the gun not firing until the bolt is locked in firing position. Uncontrolled automatic fire can result with the gun firing without the bolt locked in place essentially possibly causing the gun to blow up in the shooters hands. The most common recommendation I read is not to go lower than 4# and if possible use a two stage trigger.
TRIGGER FIT – INSTALLATION: As I mentioned in the first sentence most aftermarket AR15 triggers will work in the .308. There is one caveat though. Some triggers will require modification or interference with the bolt carrier will result. So with that in mind I suggest sticking with triggers that are designed for the .308AR and designated to do so from the trigger manufacturer. If you are unsure call the trigger manufacturer or seek the help of a qualified gunsmith.
Geissele triggers are the standard by which all other triggers are judged with regards to AR-15’s as well as the .308 AR’s and AR-10’s
Geissele Automatics, LLC 308 AR AR-10 Trigger
Fully adjustable trigger gives a smooth, two-stage pull with a precise “icicle sharp” break and ultra-fast lock time to minimize accuracy loss caused by gun movement during trigger pull. Set first stage pull weight by bending the legs of the trigger spring; set second-stage weight within a pre-set range by turning its adjustment screw. Another screw on the trigger lets you adjust over travel for clean, crisp let off. Lightweight hammer provides a 50% reduction in lock time over factory hammer, yet uses standard weight hammer spring to ensure sufficient energy transfer for reliable primer ignition, even on AR-style .308 weapons. Jewell AR Trigger
Jewell Triggers has offered an AR15 trigger for some time. In all honesty I have never seen one and I have never known anyone who owns one.
Jewell AR15 Trigger 308 AR Trigger
From the manufacturer:
This quality two-stage trigger allows sear engagement and trigger pull weight adjustment from the top of the lower receiver without disassembly of the firearm. Includes trigger, trigger spring, disconnector, hammer and hammer spring. This trigger features a 1 to 7 lb range of pull. Not recommended for use with military ammunition. Careful adjustment required, tools and detailed instructions included. Gunsmith fitting recommended.
AR-15 Hammer and Trigger Pin Dimensions:
Some Colt® AR type rifles have been manufactured with hammer and trigger pins and holes which are approximately .176″ in diameter. These are referred to as “large pin” Colts. This was done to eliminate the chances of someone putting M16 fire control parts into an AR receiver. This is not found in all Colt models, just some.
All other AR type rifle manufacturers have stayed with the .156″ diameter hammer and trigger pins and holes, or “small pin” which is the same spec used in all military M16 rifles.
Measure your pins or the holes in your lower receiver to determine if you have a “small” or “large” hole Colt® AR

Jard AR-10 DPMS LR-308 AR Trigger
When the field of triggers was much smaller the Jards were my go to for both the AR15 and 308 AR. Priced at about $150 the Jard Triggers are in a crowded pack. Proven, single-stage design greatly improves trigger feel and function so you can concentrate on your shots instead of a stiff, factory trigger pull. Sear engagement point behind the hammer provides added leverage for a clean-breaking, 2, 3, or 4 lb. pull weight. Sear and disconnector engagement, overtravel and safety movement adjustments allow fine-tuning for ultimate crispness and less stress on parts. Engagement surfaces are precision-ground and honed to minimize drag, then heat-treated to prevent wear. Includes hard striking, low mass hammer to reduce locktime.
