NOVESKE LEONIDAS 308 AR RIFLE

NOVESKE LEONIDAS 308 AR RIFLE AR-10

NOVESKE LEONIDAS 308 AR RIFLE

The NOVESKE LEONIDAS 308 AR AR-10 RIFLE is no longer in production.

Due to lack of information we have included some Noveske company history on the remainder of this page.

Johnny Noveske started out as a gunsmith who tried to make a better chamber and barrel for the AR-15. He wanted more exacting standards, better accuracy and reliability. He didn’t realize it at the time but he was creating the Porsche equivalent for the AR platform, and is now known for creating just that – Noveske created some of the finest ARs on the market.

Noveske Rifleworks designs and builds a wide array of luxury AR-based rifles. Their rifles are masterpieces of design and craftsmanship, but they aren’t for everyone. The price alone, which ranges from $2,000 and up with their newest rifle starting at $3,400, will keep many shooters from owning one. You do get what you pay for, however. My Toyota gets me to work every day, but a Porsche would get me there in style, comfort and precision engineering. The same holds true for a Noveske rifle. It’s a piece of art that just happens to come in 5.56, .300 Blackout and .308. Once you shoot a Noveske, the realization sets in that you have just handled one of the finest ARs in the world today.

The company is staffed by what can only be described as an eclectic group. There are only 33 members of the team, and in order to accomplish Noveske’s innovative approach, these people think outside of the box, and more likely don’t even know what the box is.

Johnny Noveske was killed in a car accident at just 36 years old. The company forged ahead with his widow, Lorina, in an attempt to keep Noveske’s dream and the company alive. They have had more than one change at the president level since his passing, but have now landed Mike Alland. Alland has a long history in the outdoor, adventure-sports and firearms market. Alland is a high-energy guy who brings excitement, commitment to excellence and cutting-edge product ideas to the table. He isn’t your typical gun-company executive, either. Alland has a degree from San Diego State University in economics and statistical analysis.

Noveske has a guerilla-marketing style that forgoes the normal channels used by their competitors. For example, at the gun industry’s biggest annual show, SHOT, you won’t find a Noveske booth. You may see one of their guns here and there displayed at one of their distributors’ booths and the Noveske folks might be wandering the floor, but no booth. Their business comes from word of mouth and customer testimonials. This a live-on-theedge concept; if your customers are unhappy, you are going to have a difficult time selling your product. Up to this point, Noveske has kept their customers happy. The only complaint they seem to get is that they don’t introduce new products quickly and past products took a long time to get to market. These are issues that Alland has addressed and is correcting.

To Johnny Noveske’s credit, he passed much of his gunsmithing knowledge onto his employees, but just like when Apple lost Steve Jobs, Noveske too had lost their innovator. A lack of ingenuity causes stagnation and this can ultimately kill a company. When Alland stepped in, this was the concensus, but this is changing. The company is finally releasing their N6, which has been highly anticipated by their loyal followers, and will not disappoint the critics.

THE N6 IS A 7.62, but will also be released in 6.5 Creedmor and comes with some incredible features. The rifle is available in two barrel lengths: 16 and 12.5 inches. It has a switch block, which allows the shooter to control how much gas comes through the system, and there is a setting for suppressed, nonsuppressed and off. The suppressed setting allows the user to cut back on the gas that gets pushed back while shooting suppressed, saving wear and tear on the can and rifle. When turned off, the round will fire but the action will not cycle – perfect for maximizing sound reduction. According to the Noveske Rifleworks team, small operational units have shown interest in using the 12.5 version in full auto.

If you get the chance to shoot a Noveske rifle, take it. It may, however, create a dilemma for you. My dilemma was whether or not I needed to eat for the next six months. To each their own, and you will figure it out quickly. After all, shooting is supposed to be fun, and Noveske makes it fun.

DPMS GII 308AR RIFLE

DPMS GII 308AR AR-10 AR308

DPMS GII 308AR

DPMS GII – The heart of the GII is a matched pair of forged, level III anodized, Teflon* coated 7075 receivers, providing improved strength and durability. With the advancements in the forging, feed ramps and bolt geometry, the GII has a shorter overall receiver length, as well as a reduced receiver diameter.

DPMS GII IMPROVEMENTS VERSUS LR-308 308AR

  • GII FORWARRD ASSIST – DPMS has listened and provided 308AR shooters something they may or may not actually need. The DPMS GII forged upper receiver features a forward assist that is physically the same as a FORWARD ASSIST found on the AR15/M4 rifle.
  • GII FORGED UPPER & LOWER RECEIVERS – Forged upper and lower receivers are contoured to be more ergonomic. Compact design is both lightweight and only 1/2” longer than a 5.56 AR15 receiver, 5/8” shorter than the current LR-308 308AR.  Lower receiver incorporates integral trigger guard and accepts any standard AR15 308AR AR-10 pistol grip.
  • GII SHELL DEFLECTOR – DPMS redesigned the shell deflector
  • GII EJECTION PORT – Lengthened port allows for better, more consistent ejection.
  • GII EXTRACTOR – Through countless hours of research, testing, and tens of thousands of fired rounds, DPMS has selected a new extractor material that is nearly impervious to breaking, and a patent pending elastomer extractor spring. We ran tens of thousands of rounds through during testing without fatigue, breakage, failure, and the new materials resisted temperatures from -60˚F to 650˚F+ as well as every gun cleaner, solvent, oil or degreaser we could get our hands on. New extractor material. The new extractor and elastomer extractor spring provide outstanding functional, endurance, and environmental resistance improvements.
  • GII DUAL EJECTOR SYSTEM – The GII dual ejector system reduces the ejector spring fatigue. Through duplicity, the likelihood of a failed ejection is significantly reduced.
  • GII BARREL EXTENSION FEED RAMP – The DPMS GII incorporates an inserted steel feed ramp, allowing a lighter, smaller barrel extension and receiver, while improving feeding of more ammunition types.
  • GII BOLT CARRIER – Reduced weight, yet lighter recoil  Reduced mass carrier provides smoother, softer recoil impulse than the GEN1 LR-308 308AR. Reduced mass, forged, monolithic bolt carrierwith forward assist  New lightweight, forged, monolithic bolt carrier utilizes an integral gas key tower and removable gas key extension.
  • GII BOLT & BARREL EXTENSION – Improved bolt & barrel extension  An all new bolt geometry provides superior lockup and strength. The bolt geometry allows a smaller diameter barrel extension to be used, in turn allowing upper receiver to be smaller, reducing overall material and weight without compromising strength.
  • BEVELED MAG WELL – The beveled mag well provides a comfortable grip for those that prefer a mag well hold and also aids in quicker mag changes.

DPMS GII ADAPTIBILITY & VERSATILITY

  • With its adaptability in accepting standard AR15, M4 fire control and more .223 two piece handguards than before, the GII core also remains versatile in both tactical and hunting configurations. A true game-changer. Accepts more 2 piece AR15 M4 handguards than previous LR-308. Newly designed barrel nut allows the use of .223 diameter free float handguard systems. (Note from 308AR.com – This is somewhat misleading. The DPMS GII utilizes a different barrel nut thread than the AR15 M4. Keyword is “two piece” )
  • Accepts standard AR15 M4 fire controls  DPMS GII rifles accept standard MSR fire controls for even more adaptability.
  •  An exceptional tactical rifle  Contoured steel feed ramps, revolutionary redesigned extraction system, and a dual ejector design decrease feeding, extraction and ejection malfunctions.  Completely re-designed gas delivery system utilizes a monolithic bolt carrier and optimized gas ring clearances to eliminate the possibility of gas leakage during operation.

Wilson Combat 458 SOCOM

WILSON COMBAT 458 SOCOM REINTRODUCTION – The 458 SOCOM cartridge offers the practical ballistics of the legendary .45-70 in a modern AR platform rifle and is capable of firing 250 to 600 grain .458 caliber bullets in a lightweight, controllable package. For hunting medium to large game, bullets in the 250 grain– 400 grain weight range possess devastating killing power. We have found that the .458 SOCOM offers peak downrange performance when firing the purpose built Barnes 300 grain TAC TX bullet in the 1750fps – 1800fps velocity range.

The industry standard 1-14 twist barrels seem to be the best choice for over 350 grain bullets and/or subsonic loads and will shoot all suitable bullet weights acceptably well. We recommend this twist rate if you plan to use a suppressor to eliminate the chance of a baffle strike.

Wilson Combat 458 SOCOM 308AR AR-10 AR308 308 AR

The SOCOM is also capable of launching 500- 600 grain bullets at subsonic velocities for suppressed or tactical use.

Building the .458 SOCOM takes only two caliber specific parts-a .458 specific bolt and barrel- Wilson Combat is further optimizing their .458 SOCOM rifles by adding an adjustable gas block, extra power action spring and straight gas tube as a standard reliability upgrade. Having the ability to easily adjust your gas volume allows the end user to fine tune their carbine’s bolt velocity for a specific load’s power.

In our opinion the .458 SOCOM has several design and performance advantages over the.450 Bushmaster and the .500 Beowulf including improved functional reliability and the use of a standard AR magazine

Bushmaster 308AR AR 10 AR308

As of March 8, 2016 we have no information on the current status of Bushmaster 308AR, AR 10 AR308 Weapon Platform. The Bushmaster website resolves to a support site https://support.bushmaster.com/.308 and a dysfunctional catalog.

Update August 21, 2016. The Bushmaster 2016 catalog is now functional. Unfortunately there is absolutely no mention of a .308 Winchester AR (308 AR). I guess it’s a safe assumption that for the time being there will be no Bushmaster branded 308AR/AR-10 Rifle. Perhaps the this is to push shooters to Remington R25 GII and DPMS GII platforms.

We have a forum post here.
