LaRue Tactical 16 Inch PredatAR 7.62

The LaRue Tactical 16 Inch PredatAR 7.62 is designed for those who are searching for a lightweight, ultra-reliable and accurate 7.62 mm NATO rifle for home-defense, competition-shooting or hunting. The PredatAR takes the highly-accurate OBR 7.62 “Heavy” design, and lightens it in every possible way with the least possible impact to the accuracy that the standard OBR is known for. By contouring the barrel, skeletonizing the handguard, lowering and simplifying the upper rail, and using a low-profile gas block, we were able to reduce roughly 2 pounds from the standard OBR 7.62 rifle.

The barrels are lightweight-profiled and feature rifling in a 1/10 twist rate. All barrels are threaded in 5/8 x 24, with an A2 flash hider attached* (other muzzle devices can be added at an additional cost).

The handguards on the PredatAR extend out 14”, to suit a larger range of shooting styles. The zero-MOA upper rail provides plenty of room for weapon-mounted night-vision day/night combinations. Both the upper and lower are CNC-machined from billet aluminum for the optimum fit and consistency. Even though we lightened certain features, there is still additional material in strategic areas to achieve maximum accuracy. Each rifle ships with one, 3” long, MIL-STD-1913 detachable rail section.

Both models come with a 6-position LaRue RAT Stock and LaRue medium A-PEG™ Grip. The Bolt Carriers are hand-polished hard-chrome with staked carrier keys, with Texas-Spec Bolt assemblies. (Iron Sights, Optics and QD mounts not included in price)

Base model includes LaRue RAT Stock and LaRue medium A-PEG™ Grip, A2 Flash Hider, plus one LaRue (M110-compatible) 20-round magazine

About LaRue Firearm Accuracy:
LaRue accuracy is known world-wide. The accuracy of each LaRue Rifle is proven at our 100-yard tunnel using match-grade ammunition. No LaRue firearm can leave the facility unless it obtains accuracy of less-than 1 MOA (1.047”) at 100 Yards. Each firearm ships with a copy of a 3-round group obtained from that actual firearm. While we guarantee the rifle is capable of sub-MOA accuracy, we can not guarantee the end-user will be able to shoot sub-MOA…since we have no control over shooting proficiency, familiarity with the system, ammunition choice, environmental factors, etc. LaRue firearms are precision instruments that require discipline, training, proper ammunition and maintenance to yield the best results.

XTRAXN™ is a proprietary chamber feature added to reduce frictional forces caused by pressure-expanded cartridge cases bearing against chamber walls. Facilitates reliable extraction through a wide range of temperature / chamber pressure extremes. XTRAXN™ extends extractor life, while having no effect on the firearm’s accuracy. All this, and it dovetails well with the OBR’s world-famous accuracy.

LaRue Tactical 14.5 Inch PredatOBR 7.62

LaRue Tactical 14.5 Inch PredatOBR 762

The LaRue Tactical 14.5 Inch PredatOBR 7.62 was designed for those who are searching for a hybrid cross between the standard OBR and PredatAR 7.62×51 Rifles. The most remarkable feature of the PredatOBR is its ability to be completely “broken down” and stored into the optional Rollup Bag and Toolbox. The PredatOBR handguard has a locking stainless steel QD Lever system on each side. Once the levers are released, the handguard slides off of the upper assembly in seconds. The PredatOBR’s barrel can easily be removed with the supplied PredatOBR Barrel Wrench, unscrew the Barrel Nut from Receiver and pull the Barrel Assembly free from Receiver. No need to remove the gas tube, gas block or muzzle device. Reverse the process to reinstall. Hand-tighten Barrel Nut and torque approximately 1/8-turn past hand-tight (Approximately 40-50 foot pounds). Once reassembled correctly, the point of impact (POI) shift will be 0.0 to 0.5 MOA of the original.

PredatOBR barrels are chambered in 7.62x51mm, and feature rifling in a 1/10 twist rate. All barrels are threaded in 5/8 x 24. Like the OBR and PredatAR riles, LaRue has eliminated the conventional AR barrel nut and bolt the handguard directly to the proprietary upper receiver, creating a true “free-float” barrel. The handguard does not touch the barrel or barrel nut at any place. The zero-MOA upper rail provides plenty of room for weapon-mounted night-vision day/night combinations. Both the upper and lower are CNC-machined from billet aluminum for the optimum fit and consistency. Even though it has been lightened certain features, there is still additional material in strategic areas to achieve maximum accuracy.

The PredatOBR has threaded stainless-steel hard-points over the entire length of the handguard at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. These hard-points have an integral spine built-in for structural support. Provided with the system are three 3-inch MIL-STD-1913 rail sections that can be positioned anywhere along the handguard, per operator preference. These rail sections are attachable/detachable using a supplied tool (Torx® T-15 wrench). The rail sections are CNC-machined from billet aluminum. This robust solution provides a perfect precision mounting space for aiming lasers, illumination and bipods.

The PredatOBR’s Port Selector Technology™ (PST) gas block is adjustable, to aid in the optimum function when using a sound suppressor. This special gas block contains a dual port mechanism that is operated by rotating a lever from one side to another. When the lever is rotated to the right-side of the rifle, the gasses are reduced, to compensate for the extra blowback created by the suppressor. When rotated to the left side, the gasses are increased for use without a suppressor.

The LaRue Tactical 6-position Retract Action Trigger (R.A.T.) Stock comes standard with every PredatOBR. It is ergonomic, has protected control surfaces and contains a set of cleaning rods in an internal compartment. Since the height of the 12 o’clock rail is at the optimum position, there is no need for a cheek riser as part of this system. Visit Larue Tactical

Suppressor Compatibility:
LaRue 7.62 rifles with Port Selector Technology (PST) have been optimized for best-performance with SureFire suppressors. We understand that there are dozens of 7.62 suppressors to choose from on the market at this time. We feel that SureFire suppressors fall somewhere in the middle-range in regards to effect of performance with gas-operated rifles. Many users have met with success operating different models of their choice. Combined with variables in ammunition, 7.62 suppressor owners have experienced a large spectrum of conditions (much greater than seen with 5.56 suppressors). This range of variables is easy to manage with a bolt-action 7.62, but with a gas-operated system it is not. While we made a concerted effort to design a gas system that will work with a wide range of suppressors, we can not guarantee proper-function with suppressor hardware other than SureFire.

Larue Tactical OBR 7.62

Texas has a problem; her problem is wild hogs. The feral hog population is now close to two million and the LaRue Tactical PredatAR OBR 7.62 can help. Texas has a problem. With gas at $4 per gallon, it’s not oil. The three-year drought has broken and cotton levels are at an all-time high. Her problem is wild hogs. Feral hog populations have reached a critical mass, exploding across the landscape. Near impossible to starve, scare or poison, invasive hogs now number close to two million in Texas.

According to Texas A&M University feral hogs are the most prolific large, wild mammal in North America. Given adequate nutrition feral hog populations can double in four months. They have become an absolute danger to both the environment and agriculture, rooting and destroying crops and fragile habitats with damages exceeding $400 million in the state of Texas alone. After a rooting herd of hogs passes by, the place can resemble a World War I “no-man’s land” scene, fully denuded and bereft of life.

State biologists estimate one feral sow living a normal life can account for over four hundred offspring. Moreover, it is estimated that culling 70 percent of the the current population will only stem the tide to a manageable level &mdash much more work lies ahead. Now there are practically no restrictions to hog hunting in Texas. The state requires an :exotic” hunting license, which is cheap, carries no tag limits, and permits hunters to use bows, rifles or shotguns with no magazine restrictions. Yet with all this latitude the problem persists. In many ways, hunters are properly and unfortunately the last resort, and this has lead to the practice of aerial hog eradication. But unlike traditional big-game hunting, the purpose of aerial hog shooting is to remove a destructive, invasive species from the land.

Enter the helicopter eradication specialist turned guide/outfitter. Since September of 2011, Texas has allowed licensed eradication pilots to sell shooter seats on their previously restricted business of nuisance animal control. Now landowners and hunters can fly with contracted pilots to fire down upon hogs.

Aerial Hogging
So what is aerial hog shooting? Is it sporting? Does it work? Kyle Lange, a second-generation helicopter pilot and Texan from San Angelo, believes the regulation change has not only opened up the process to a broader range of shooters but has also raised awareness of the feral hog problem. “It’s slightly more complicated than people think. You need good terrain, dedicated shooters and solid flying. If you want to solve the problem, you can’t just shoot a few hogs just to say you have done it, and go home. Seeing the hogs from the air gives new insight into the magnitude of the problem. There were times where we have hunted the same area year after year and only after the third year of aggressive eradication did we see a drop off in the number of hogs.”
