AR 15 HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE

AR-15 HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE

AR-15 HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE

I religiously check the Brownlells  new products section looking for new hardware to separate me from my money. Well today I saw the HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE listed.  The HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE at this time is only available for the AR-15 but I found it an interesting enough product that I thought I would post this and ask for public opinion on the 308AR FB page.

The HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE was designed by veterans who saw a need for an integral M4/AR15 cheek riser. This was needed to better align the shooters eye with magnified optics with short eye reliefs. The Army and Marine Corps both issue magnified optics to their ground troops. For many years it has been impossible for most shooters to attain a proper sight picture without goose-necking, until now. The HABU™ solves this issue and will provide the solution that many asked for, yet only Falcon 37 delivered.

Why HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE is a “Must Have” AR Accessory

By combining the charging handle and cheek rest HABU Mod 1 not only accelerates and improves operation of the AR platform, it looks BAD-ASS… like it belongs there! Using Major v.s. minor motor skills for it’s operation which is critical for Entry Teams, Military personnel and other high stress environments, the shooter can more effectively grip HABU to get his or her gun back in the fight.
A shooter must have consistent, proper cheek weld on any gun platform they’re shooting. The charging handle on the AR platform prevents attachment of most cheek rest devices without stock modifications. Falcon 37 Inc. wanted to create an ergonomic cheek rest device that wouldn’t get in the way of a charging handle while keeping the shooters cheek in the proper position using optics. Having proper cheek weld on the gun minimizes the time the shooter spends “chasing the red dot or reticle” with their eye.

HABU MOD1 CHARGING HANDLE FEATURES:

• Smoother to Operate
• Works on any Stock
• Requires only Major Motor Skills
• Built in, adjustable cheek riser for shooter stability
• Racks like a pistol slide
• Ambidextrous
• Patent Pending latch eliminates latch release
• Minimizes “back spray” into shooters eyes
• Made of 7075 T6 aluminum to Mil Spec standards

The HABU MOD 1 Advanced Engagement Charging Handle allows for robust charging of the AR-15, while simultaneously integrating a cheek riser.  The HABU’s unique form factor is designed for the non-dominant hand to charge the rifle, much like a semi-automatic handgun, using your full grasp & hand.  This design is completely ambidextrous, with no small latches to worry about engaging.  Proper cheek weld can also be attained, without the use of stock mounted cheek risers, which often interfere with operating the charging handle.  The HABU works with any commercially available AR-15 buttstock, both collapsible & fixed.  The cheek riser’s placement can also be adjusted front to back to suite the shooter’s needs & comfort.  When shooting suppressed, gases exiting the rear almost entirely negated. The handle is machined from 7075 T6 aluminum, with the cheek riser being molded from a matte black polymer.

AR Ejection Cover Hinge Pin Clip Tool

AR-15 and AR .308 Ejection Cover Hinge Pin Clip Tool – There are a couple tricky areas when building an AR-10, 308 AR AR-15 etc. All are pretty easily tackled with special tools and patience. There is one part though rarely mentioned as being difficult but can give a builder fits (especially this guy with missing/short fingers). That part is the tiny c-clip on the ejection port door cover. It’s small and difficult to install with ease. Well the other day I was browsing Brownells gunsmithing tools section of their website when I happened across what they have labeled “AR Ejection Cover Hinge Pin Clip Tool“. It turns out this handy little gem of a tool is from a company called ROTOR CLIP. Rotor clip is a manufacturer of snap-rings, e-clips and yes the c-clip of the AR15 Ejection Cover Hinge Pin. Rotor Clip also manufacturers tools for installing and removing the previously mentioned fasteners. In this case the tool is a C-Clip Installation Tool manufacturers part number is A-300. I checked stock at industrial supply houses  as well as Amazon and Sears $46 was the going rate, Yikes. Brownells was half the cost plus I’m an edge member and have those shipping perks.

I think tonight I will go home and remove all the c-clips from my ejection port cover pins just to reinstall them just for fun.

JP 308 AR ENHANCED EXTRACTOR JPEB-308EX

JP 308 AR ENHANCED EXTRACTOR JPEB-308EX – This replacement extractor for DPMS 308AR AR308 pattern .308 bolt assemblies includes our extractor spring/rubber core. JP 308 AR ENHANCED EXTRACTOR JPEB-308EX provides a great upgrade over existing over factory 308 AR extractors.  JP completely redesigned the extractor, using improved materials and heat treatment processes.  This extractor will hold up for thousands of rounds, instead of encountering extraction issues after a few hundred.  Fits DPMS pattern 308 bolts.  Includes extractor and spring.

JP 308 AR ENHANCED EXTRACTOR

JP 308 AR ENHANCED EXTRACTOR

Installation Instructions
Engineered to provide a much longer service life than standard extractors, the JP .308 Enhanced Extractor is an easily swappable component for any DPMS pattern bolt to eliminate extraction problems, premature extractor failure and other malfunctions resulting from the extractor not clearing the case rim. While designed to remedy these extractor‐specific problems, the JP Enhanced Extractor will not solve issues stemming from poor chambering or over‐gassing. If your rifle continues to experience extraction issues with this component installed, the problem lies elsewhere. Refer to the section below regarding such failures.
To remove your existing extractor, use an appropriately sized punch to drive out the extractor pin. On all current JP EnhancedBolts, this pin can be inserted/removed in only one direction. With the pin out, the extractor will then be easily removable and should retain the extractor spring, which need not be removed from the extractor. Install the JP Enhanced Extractor in the same manner making sure that the extractor spring with rubber insert and the O‐ring remain in assembly.

ADDITIONAL EXTRACTION ISSUES
Although much development, thought and testing have been put into optimizing the performance and durability of this extractor, it is important to know that other factors enter into an extraction failure and some of these are beyond the ability of any extractor to overcome. If you have a rifle that has extraction issues, it is important to find and address the root causes that may not be related to design deficiencies of the extractor itself.

Note that if you see the rim of fired cases slightly bent to the rear from extraction, this is an indication that your rifle is on the verge of not extracting or breaking the rim off the case. These cases should then be discarded and not reloaded. The cause of this should then be determined and addressed.

  1. Over‐pressured ammunition causes the case to extrude into every minor imperfection in
the walls of the chamber. The case will then stick and fail to release from the chamber during
the firing process. For reliable extraction, the case must relax and release the chamber
    during the firing cycle.
  2. Port pressure that is too high or too sudden will cause the extractor to break the rim off the
case before it has a chance to release the chamber. Excessive port pressure causes too rapid
a pressurization of the bolt/carrier assembly, which in turn attempts to extract the case too
quickly before it is “ready” to come out. If the port is close to the chamber as in the carbine
port position, this exacerbates the problem further. An adjustable gas system can usually
    solve this issue.
  3. Micro flaws in the chamber of any self‐loading rifle are an invitation for a malfunction. If the
chamber has reamer marks, scratches from sand or grit, rust pits or any negative features
into which brass from the casing can extrude during the firing process, this will literally lock
the case in the chamber and defeat the best of extractors. If these anomalies are not overly
severe, the chamber may be recoverable with a good polish. Rust pits, however, usually
spell the end of a good barrel. A ring depression from a bad or fouled reamer is also not
recoverable, and the upper will have to be re‐barreled.
