308 AR Magazines
Magazine Selection Guide for AR-10 & 308 AR Weapon Platforms
April 26, 2020
What are the best magazines for your .308 AR or Armalite AR-10? Unlike the AR-10’s offspring, the AR-15, there isn’t an abundance of magazine choices for the large frame .308 based platforms. In fact, a majority of the AR .308’s are designed to utilize the Magpul LR-308 magazine aka “308 PMAG”. It could probably be said the Magpul 308 magazines have become the unofficial standard.
Cementing this fact, Armalite has been transitioning away from the M14 magazine based AR-10 “B” in favor of the Magpul compatible AR-10 “A” variant. DPMS is out of business, which eliminates the largest supplier of steel .308 AR Magazines. FAL magazine based AR’s would be extinct if not for Rock River Arms. The list continues. Now, this is not to say there aren’t other brands of .308 AR magazines, and there are. They just aren’t as popular as the Magpul. In fact, as I write this, I prefer the Lancer .308 magazines to the Magpul offering. My reasons are a story for another day.
Sentry Hexmag AR-10 SR25 308 AR Magazines

Armalite AR-10 Magazines Fits AR-10B
These magazines are only for the series “B” Armalite AR-10, they were originally based off of M14 magazines and modified to function in the AR-10B. If your AR-10 shipped with polymer magazines such as the Magpul LR-20 PMAG these magazines WILL NOT WORK IN YOUR AR-10. The Armalite AR-10 B-Series Gen II Magazines are battle tested, ultra-reliable and built to last.
Magpul PMAG D-50 LR AR 308 Drum Magazine MAG993
The Magpul PMAG D-50 LR/SR is the bigger, louder brother of the Magpul drum magazine line, bringing you a lightweight and reliable 50 round polymer drum magazine for 7.62×51 NAT0/.308 Winchester ammunition and DPMS LR and SR25/M110 pattern rifles. Engineered to the same exacting standards as their famous Magpul PMAG and PMAG D-60 drum magazines, the D-50 continues the PMAG tradition of high-capacity performance and dependability combined with the Magpul GEN M3 feature set.
