Today we are pleased to see Brownells carrying and expanded line of Criterion 308 AR Barrels. This is actually a pretty big deal. CBI is careful on how they market their 308 AR barrels. There is no competition between Fulton Armory, American Defense Manufacturing and the Criterion Barrel Inc website. Visiting the three websites will result in different 308 barrel offerings

Criterion Hybrid contour match grade .308 AR barrels offer an ideal configuration for those seeking extreme accuracy without the added weight of a heavy barrel contour. These .308 AR barrels feature a M118LR chamber. The longer throat of the M118LR enables Criterion .308 AR barrels to improve upon the performance of loads utilizing heavier bullets, serving to reduce wind drift when fired at longer ranges.

CRITERION BARRELS INC – 308 AR STAINLESS STEEL BARRELS

This configuration is designed to accommodate either .308 Winchester or 7.62×51 ammunition, and comes complete with an installed barrel extension. CBI .308 AR barrels are compatible with DPMS, Remington, and Fulton Armory pattern rifles, and accept muzzle devices with a 5/8×24 thread.

An indent is provided opposite the gas port to enable easy installation. Chambers are finished, but headspace should be checked prior to installation. Stainless steel variants are available in 20 and 22 inch lengths. These barrels are button rifled, and have been hand lapped to ensure consistent bore uniformity. The 20″ Hybrid utilizes a 0.750″ gas block, while the 22″ Hybrid utilizes a 0.875″ gas block – gas blocks NOT included.

CRITERION BARRELS INC – 308 AR CHROME LINED BARRELS

This configuration is designed to accommodate either .308 Winchester or 7.62×51 ammunition, and comes complete with an installed barrel extension. CBI .308 AR barrels are compatible with DPMS, Remington, and Fulton pattern rifles, and accept muzzle devices with a 5/8×24 thread. An indent is provided opposite the gas port to enable easy installation.

Chambers are finished, but headspace should be checked prior to installation. Chrome lined variants are available in 16, 18 and 20 inch lengths. These barrels are button rifled, and have been hand lapped to ensure consistent bore uniformity.

CRITERION BARRELS INC – 308 AR HYBRID BARRELS, 6.5 CREEDMOOR

Criterion Hybrid contour match grade 6.5 Creedmoor AR barrels offer an ideal configuration for those seeking extreme accuracy without the added weight of a heavy barrel contour. Featuring a flatter trajectory and higher ballistic coefficient than the traditional .308 Winchester alternative, the 6.5 Creedmoor has grown in popularity with many long range shooters.

Designed to be compatible with DPMS, Midwest Industries, Remington, and Fulton Armory pattern rifles, these 6.5 Creedmoor barrels can be directly swapped with factory .308 barrels. Button rifled and hand lapped to ensure consistent bore uniformity, Criterion 6.5 Creedmoor AR barrels incorporate a 5/8 x 24 muzzle thread and finished chamber.

Headspace should be checked prior to installation by a qualified gunsmith. NOTE: The 18″ 100-019-351 utilizes a .750″ gas block while the 22″ 100-019-352 utilizes a .875″ gas block (NOT include for either).

308 AR Bolt Compatibility

Note: Many .308 AR bolt manufacturers advertise their bolt as compatible with DPMS pattern .308 AR rifles, lug and bolt face tolerances often vary widely between different manufacturers. This is in opposition to the AR-15, where there is a uniform industry standard. Criterion barrels are gauged at the factory with Fulton Armory .308 AR bolts. Assembly

F&D’s rail system eliminates the barrel nut, allowing simplified and consistent barrel removal and reinstallation, while providing an extremely rigid connection to the upper receiver. F&D’s exclusive bolt-on interface maintains much higher rigidity than barrel-nut designs, and consolidates the absolute lowest and most compact rail-height available compared to any piston or direct impingement rifle system. This proprietary interface exerts 8200 lbs of axial force against the upper receiver, compared to 6700 lbs with standard barrel nuts utilized on most other AR-10 style rifles. Radial-clamping “quick-change” barrel systems exert little to no axial force against the upper receiver and reduces accuracy consistency. Axial barrel retaining force is one of the most significant structural contributors to accuracy and consistency on AR platform rifles.

There was a time when 308AR/AR-10 bolt carriers were often in short supply. I remember some of us would send each other email messages if we found 308AR/AR-10 Bolt Carrier Groups before announcing them to 308AR.com forums. Today the 308AR/AR-10 Bolt Carrier Groups seem to be everywhere. Some from long time well known and well established firearm manufacturers and other from manufacturers I never heard. Todays entry is the latter. I happened across the “Alex Pro Bolt Carrier Group AR-10 308AR Nickel Boron DPMS Compatible” while browsing The Sportsmans Guide.
