We are seeing reports of DPMS compatible IRA uppers with some fitment issues with DPMS 308 AR lower receivers. It appears that when the two parts are mated there is an excessive gap between bolt carrier and buffer. The end result is the buffer gets battered against the buffer retaining pin possibly damaging one or both parts. IRA recommends folks that experience this issue install this buffer pad on the buffer.
Like its 5.56 mm counterpart, the Heckler & Koch HK MR762A1 is a direct descendant of the Heckler & Koch 416/417 series, only in a semi-automatic rifle configuration developed for civilian users.
Using the Heckler & Koch -proprietary operating system, the HK MR762A1 is gas operated and uses a piston and a solid operating “pusher” rod in place of the common gas tube normally employed in AR15/M16/M4-style weapons.
Pioneered by Heckler & Koch in the G36, HK416, and HK417; this method virtually eliminates malfunctions common to direct impingement gas systems since hot carbon fouling and waste gases do not enter the receiver area. The MR762A1 stays cleaner, reducing heat transfer to the bolt and bolt carrier, and drastically reducing wear and tear on other critical components. The service life of all parts is increased substantially.
HK MR762A1
The HK MR762A1 uses a barrel produced by Heckler & Koch’s famous cold hammer forging process. This manufacturing process uses the highest quality steel, producing a barrel that ensures superior accuracy, even after firing thousands of rounds. The MR762A1 is produced at Heckler & Koch’s American manufacturing facilities from both American and German-made components.
The HK MR762A1 uses many of the assemblies and accessories originally developed for the HK416/417 series including adjustable buttstocks, ergonomic pistol grips, mechanical sights, and the HK free-floating four-quadrant rail system/handguard. This MIL-STD-1913 “Picatinny” type rail system allows all current accessories, sights, lights, and aimers used on M4/M16-type weapons to be fitted to the MR series. The HK rail system can be removed without special tools by the user and ensures 100% return to zero when reinstalled.
Ambidextrous operating controls are standard on the MR762A1, including a convertible charging handle and an ambidextrous selector lever. The MR762A1 uses the same 10- and 20-round translucent polymer box magazines made for the HK417; a 5-round magazine is also under development. MR762A1 rifles are well-suited for a variety of applications including law enforcement tactical, police patrol, general sporting, and hunting (a 5-round magazine is under development).
We use the same grade steel used in making cannon barrels — for its rifle barrels. Using the famous HK cold hammer forging process, this advanced technology manufacturing produces a barrel that provides superior accuracy and long service life. It is also moderately “swagged” with a slightly smaller internal diameter at the muzzle end than the chamber end. This has a positive effect on bullet accuracy and velocity and the thick, heavy contour MR series barrels also contributes to its precision.
Texas has a problem; her problem is wild hogs. The feral hog population is now close to two million and the LaRue Tactical PredatAR OBR 7.62 can help. Texas has a problem. With gas at $4 per gallon, it’s not oil. The three-year drought has broken and cotton levels are at an all-time high. Her problem is wild hogs. Feral hog populations have reached a critical mass, exploding across the landscape. Near impossible to starve, scare or poison, invasive hogs now number close to two million in Texas.
According to Texas A&M University feral hogs are the most prolific large, wild mammal in North America. Given adequate nutrition feral hog populations can double in four months. They have become an absolute danger to both the environment and agriculture, rooting and destroying crops and fragile habitats with damages exceeding $400 million in the state of Texas alone. After a rooting herd of hogs passes by, the place can resemble a World War I “no-man’s land” scene, fully denuded and bereft of life.
State biologists estimate one feral sow living a normal life can account for over four hundred offspring. Moreover, it is estimated that culling 70 percent of the the current population will only stem the tide to a manageable level &mdash much more work lies ahead. Now there are practically no restrictions to hog hunting in Texas. The state requires an :exotic” hunting license, which is cheap, carries no tag limits, and permits hunters to use bows, rifles or shotguns with no magazine restrictions. Yet with all this latitude the problem persists. In many ways, hunters are properly and unfortunately the last resort, and this has lead to the practice of aerial hog eradication. But unlike traditional big-game hunting, the purpose of aerial hog shooting is to remove a destructive, invasive species from the land.
Enter the helicopter eradication specialist turned guide/outfitter. Since September of 2011, Texas has allowed licensed eradication pilots to sell shooter seats on their previously restricted business of nuisance animal control. Now landowners and hunters can fly with contracted pilots to fire down upon hogs.
Aerial Hogging
So what is aerial hog shooting? Is it sporting? Does it work? Kyle Lange, a second-generation helicopter pilot and Texan from San Angelo, believes the regulation change has not only opened up the process to a broader range of shooters but has also raised awareness of the feral hog problem. “It’s slightly more complicated than people think. You need good terrain, dedicated shooters and solid flying. If you want to solve the problem, you can’t just shoot a few hogs just to say you have done it, and go home. Seeing the hogs from the air gives new insight into the magnitude of the problem. There were times where we have hunted the same area year after year and only after the third year of aggressive eradication did we see a drop off in the number of hogs.”
Introducing the TacOps-1 Ambidextrous Charging Handle.
June 20,2011 – Over the course of a few weeks I received several e-mail messages from folks in the field regarding the MECHARMOR TacOps-1 AMBIDEXTROUS CHARGING HANDLE. All were eager to point out two things. The first was that my site featured images from an early out of date version and secondly that I must try one of these CHARGING HANDLES for myself. In an odd twist before I was able to update my sites with current information on the TacOps-1 I was contacted by the manufacturer Mecharmor Defense. After a brief e-mail exchange I agreed to check out two samples of the TacOps-1, AR-15, and 308 AR versions. A few days later the mailperson delivered shockingly wonderful charging handle goodness. The TacOps-1 is a perfect example of internet images not doing a product justice. The TacOps-1 is massive to put it mildly. Below is an image of a BCM GUNFIGHTER Mod 3, TacOps-1, and Colt OEM AR-15 Charging handles (308 is the same just longer).
On paper the Gunfighter Mod 3 is slightly wider than the TacOps-1. My examples show they are identical in width as shown in the image below.
Manufacturers Description:
Mecharmor -The all new TacOps-1 charging handle is the newest and most effective ACTUAL combat innovation that has been designed specifically for the AR platform in some time. Not just another accessory; but a well thought out concept that dramatically changes and enhances the way your weapon is deployed, especially with optics on-board!
All users of the AR platform, especially those utilizing their weapon in combat or law enforcement operations know, that re-charging the weapon in any position, dictates the shooter come out of their Eyes On-Sight, High Ready, off hand or prone position to do so, wasting precious moments to reload or clear a weapon jam, while removing their eyes & situational awareness from potential threats. This issue has always been compounded greatly by the use of optics, especially those extending rearward over the charging handle, even a short distance. The TacOps-1 completely changes all this, adding speed, safety and operator assurance through faster, smoother handling of the weapon, and less body movement.
Sniper Ops: ONLY design that allows fast access with larger optics.
Cycle bolt in hidden prone position with minimal body movement.
High ready position; eyes & weapon on target during CQB operations.
Eyes & weapon on target during reload and jam clearing.
Ambidextrous design for traditional manipulation of handle if required.
Center thumb release button for more natural mechanical advantage.
Clear all optics and allow for lowest rearward mounting position.
Ergonomically correct for use with single point slings.
CNC manufactured from 7075 Billet aluminum with matt black anodize.
Manufactured in an ISO -9000 rated facility for maximum quality.
Designed and tested by former US Army Ranger Battalion Sniper.
30% larger roll pin & 7 pound spring to reduce potential blow-back.

POF 308 AR Stripped Lower Receiver, semi-auto lower receiver is fully machined from U.S.-sourced 7075 T6 aluminum billet for superb strength and precise dimensions. Extra metal in the right places gives a big payoff in added support and rigidity with minimal extra weight. Available in AR-15 and AR-style .308 sizes, both models accept mil-spec and aftermarket components, so you can select the upper, trigger group, pistol grip, receiver extension, and buttstock that best serve your needs—the perfect foundation for a custom tactical rifle.
Integral, oversized trigger guard machined as part of the receiver further enhances structural rigidity and provides plenty of clearance for trigger finger when wearing gloves. Radiused inside and outside edges protect finger from cuts and scrapes when mounting weapon quickly or during extended fire. Flared magwell with smoothly radiused inside corners helps ensure fast reloads, without fumbling, when seconds count. Cut for ambidextrous bolt release to allow strong- or weak-hand operation; right-side button included with receiver. Laser etched, international “fire” and “safe” symbols give the operator instant, intuitive feedback on the weapon’s safety status in high-stress situations. Mil-spec hardcoat anodized for additional surface strength and corrosion resistance. P-415 is available with a durable, low-friction black Teflon® finish or a tough, gray NP3 electroless nickel/Teflon outer coating that’s highly resistant to surface wear. NP3 is exceptionally thin, hard (Rc 48-51), and self-lubricating, so it prolongs weapon life by minimizing wear fouling buildup. P-308 is available with NP3 finish only.
